But which platform do you search on? 2dehands.be? Marktplaats.nl? AutoScout24? All of them at once? In this article we compare the three platforms honestly, so you know exactly where to spend your time.
Which online marketplaces are the most popular for used cars?
In the Netherlands Marktplaats.nl is by far the biggest marketplace for used cars, in Belgium it is 2dehands.be. AutoScout24 is the biggest car-specific site in both countries and Mobile.de is the biggest in Europe (Germany). We see the same in our own data: of the roughly 50,000 listings per day that Autoflip scans across these platforms, the largest share comes from Mobile.de, followed by Marktplaats and 2dehands (see the current breakdown per platform). How many new car listings each platform publishes
Autoflip scans all five platforms around the clock. In the last 7 days we recorded 579.463 new car listings, about 82.780 a day.

This counts the new listings Autoflip records, not a platform's total stock: it measures inflow. Four of the five platforms report the seller type themselves; Mobile.de does not, so that column stays empty rather than guessed. Across those four, 18% of new listings come from private sellers.

2dehands.be counts an estimated 3 million plus monthly visitors (source: SimilarWeb, 2025). Marktplaats.nl is the largest in the Netherlands with a bigger overall car fleet (source: SimilarWeb, 2025).
2dehands.be: the biggest platform in Belgium
2dehands.be is by far the biggest marketplace platform in Belgium with more than 3 million monthly visitors. For cars it is the first place where Belgian private sellers offer their vehicle. The supply is large and diverse: from a 2009 Fiat Panda to a BMW 5 Series with a full maintenance history.
The big advantage of 2dehands is freshness. New listings go online several times a day and disappear just as fast. Popular models such as a Volkswagen Golf or a Renault Clio with a sharp price are sometimes gone after a few hours. The search function is functional but limited: you can filter on brand, price, year and mileage, but you cannot select multiple brands at once.
A downside is that 2dehands shows relatively many "topzoekertjes" (paid featured listings) that sit at the top regardless of date. At busy moments you sometimes see 20 of the 30 results on page 1 marked as sponsored. Genuinely new listings slip to page 2 or 3.

Marktplaats.nl: huge supply, also interesting for Belgians
Marktplaats is the Dutch equivalent of 2dehands and has a gigantic supply. For Belgian buyers it is interesting because the Netherlands has a bigger car fleet and many Dutch sellers also sell to Belgian buyers. Popular are cars that are rarer in Belgium, such as certain electric models or specific trims.
The filter system of Marktplaats is comparable to 2dehands; both run on the same technology. Here too no multi-brand selection and here too many sponsored placements at the top. The advantage: the supply is significantly larger than 2dehands for many models, simply because the Netherlands has more inhabitants.
Note: as a Belgian buyer you buy without a Belgian roadworthiness test (keuring). You then have to take the car to the inspection yourself for registration, which brings extra costs. Always ask whether the seller is willing to help arrange temporary plates.

AutoScout24: the most structured platform
AutoScout24 is different from the other two. It is a European platform built specifically for cars, with a much more extensive filter system. You can filter on engine power, body type, transmission, fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and more. For people who know exactly what they are looking for, AutoScout24 is often the most convenient platform.
AutoScout24 has separate versions for Belgium (autoscout24.be) and the Netherlands (autoscout24.nl). The platform shows both dealer and private-seller supply, but the private-seller supply is smaller than on 2dehands or Marktplaats. Many AutoScout24 sellers are small dealers posing as private sellers, so stay critical.
Another difference: listings on AutoScout24 seem to stay online longer than on 2dehands or Marktplaats (our own observation, not systematically measured). That means less urgency, but also that real bargains get spotted quickly by multiple interested buyers.

Conclusion: you need all three
There is no winner. Each platform has its own supply, its own buyers and its own timing. A private seller offloading his Golf 7 might list it only on 2dehands. His neighbour with an Audi A4 might list it only on AutoScout24. The best deals are spread across all three.
